BIOGRAPHIES
  Rhiannon

Rhiannon Evans Acree ~
Gymanfa Conductor  ~ Ysgol Gân Instructor
Rhiannon, a fluent Welsh speaker, was born and raised at Gwanas farm, near Dolgellau, mid-Wales, to a musical family and has been active in music and Welsh culture all her life. She resides in Long Beach, CA with her husband, Larry, and runs her own business.  She has been associated with choirs in Dolgellau, Cardiff, Bristol in the U.K. and Long Beach, CA, and has enjoyed conducting the Gymanfa and singing in Bryn Seion Chapel in Beaverton, OR, encouraging the children to participate whenever possible. Rhiannon has been conductor for the Gymanfaoedd for the Welsh American Society of Northern California in Santa Barbara and the Bay Area, and the National Gymanfa Ganu during the Festival of Wales in San Jose in 2001. Her conducting has reached beyond to Seattle, Vancouver, Victoria and Minneapolis. For the past ten years she has also arranged for young Welsh talent to perform for the St. David’s Day celebration in Los Angeles, thus contributing to keeping traditions alive in both of the only two Welsh churches remaining west of the Mississippi (Bryn Seion and the Welsh Church of LA).  Rhiannon’s passion for Welsh hymns and Gymanfa tradition was the foundation of her childhood years. Her father only missed one Salem Dolgellau Gymanfa due to his mother’s funeral during his 92 years. As a family they regularly harmonized around the house, which is why, today as a director, she encourages all voices to build a harmony whenever possible. With her background as a Gymanfa director, Rhiannon will challenge and energize festival singers with her program containing surprise and “hwyl”
